Celebrating Ideal Beers Perfect for the October Tradition with Märzen Style Beer

CHICAGO (September 21, 2012) — Louis Glunz Beer Inc. is no newcomer to the beer scene.  In fact, the company is one of the oldest in the United States, with one of the largest selections representing 192 breweries.  To say the least, they know what’s what in the world of beer, and are excited to celebrate their German roots with Oktoberfest beers.

Oktoberfest began in Munich on October 12, 1910 when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.  All citizens of Munich were invited to the celebration, which was held on the fields in front of the city gates. Thereafter, the annual tradition of Oktoberfest began. Oktoberfest is famous for its distinctive fall beers, or Märzenbier styles, which derive from the German word “March.”  The beer was brewed in March and stored in caves before the heat of summer rendered brewing impossible. This supply would be drawn upon during the summer, and finally exhausted in October.

Today, Oktoberfest is the largest public festival in the world with over six million visitors that consume more than six million liters of beer in cities all over the world – including Chicago.

This season Louis Glunz Beer Inc. has the perfect seasonal beer selections to celebrate the tradition of Oktoberfest and enliven any tailgate party.   The following are three exciting styles of beer that Louis Glunz Beer Inc. plans to spearhead this fall season:

Hofbrau Oktoberfest (Type: Märzen, Germany): The same beer that is consumed at the Munich Oktoberfest as the biggest beer festival in the world promoting the best in Bavarian food, entertainment and beer. This special seasonal brew is created for just this event….a special brew for a special occasion. It goes great with Mexican or any hearty, spicy food, chicken, sausage, or pork. A perfect beer for spicy jalapeno jack. Desserts to pair are mango or coconut flan, almond biscotti, spice cake with pine nut.

Great Lakes Oktoberfest (Type: Märzen, Ohio): A nod to Cleveland’s commemoration of the traditional German Oktoberfest, which dates back to the mid-1800s when German immigrants celebrated at outdoor beer gardens. The rich malt flavor and fragrant noble hops in Great Lakes Oktoberfest pair well with spicy dishes, pork, pasta, and sausage.

Ayinger Oktober Fest Marzen (Type: Märzen, Germany): A Full-bodied, flavorful March (Märzen) beer brewed and lagered to celebrate Bavaria's famous Oktoberfest. Served at German beer festivals in September and October with roasted chicken, pork, and sauerkraut. Rich, golden color. Slightly sweet, malty nose. Medium to big body and alcohol. Soft dryness from long maturation.
